The Power of Comfort

Gingerbread and Applesauce!

It was just over 3 weeks ago that I finished closing the campground and drove 5 days across the country. It was another wonderful summer full of amazing people and adventures. We added the teddy bear picnic and the late-night swim- both with positive feedback. We welcomed campers both new and returning. We replaced the pool liner, finished renovating the pool bathrooms, added the Yurt and started renovating Cottage 6. -It was a good season!

And now I am home!

There is so much to do after being away for 6 months. My house is under an inch of dust, there are rooms to organize, appointments to make and keep, websites to be updated, reservation systems to be opened, letters to be written, Christmas gifts to think about and buy, children have stories to tell and permission slips to sign, there are school meetings to attend, snuggles to give, meals to be made and laundry- oh so many loads of laundry to be done!

But what I am Craving is comfort. The kind that fills the soul and makes you feel like you are wrapped in a hug of warmth and safety.

Cozy sweaters, warm mugs of goodness, late mornings in my cozy bed, laughter with my favourite people, building snowmen in the back yard with the boys, the yummiest of food, hot baths and deep connecting conversations.

My soul needs to be filled.

This world keeps turning and the demands keep coming.

Last week I stood in my crazy kitchen with dishes needing my attention and watched the stillness of the trees. A unique event this time of year in Southern Alberta. In fact, the night before I had been woken up by the crazy wind. But for a moment everything was still. The leaves were gone, and the sky was overcast. And in that moment, I knew I could learn something from the natural world around me. It was time to be still. Time to slowdown!

It is okay to slow down! Not only okay, but needful!

So, as I sit here in my cozy house, watching the snow fall outside my window, I am making a promise to myself and those I love.

A promise to make time. Time to enjoy delicious food and conversation, to listen to the stories, to breath, to get outside, to create, to laugh, to unplug, to put down the phone, to make eye contact… to connect!

Cause life is good! Life is to be enjoyed!
